Beginner’s style guide
Some say you are born with style, some others say you grow with it. In any case having a good sense of style and being stylish are two different things. For example, for many (way too many) years I had a great sense of style but I had no style! Do you know what I mean? I was the kind of person that would shop for my friends the best pieces and could chose awesome outfits but always ended up wearing a pair of jeans and a t shirt! Why? Well I was too afraid to show myself to the world. I wanted to blend is growing up and not standing out. Over the years I’ve realized how fashion is a part of expressing myself so I “gave in” the temptation of shopping and exploring all different styles.
For those that are now attempting to find their style here are some simple tricks to help you find your modjo!
Copy an outfit
I know it might not sound nice but if you are at your early 20’s and you think you can’t really decide on how to create a look this is a good way to start. When I was younger I used to check catalogues from Zara,Mango and Forever21 and I would chose an outfit I liked and purchase the entire thing! It wasn’t original but it got me in the right track and after a little while I began exploring and playing with my outfits, gradually creating my own style!
Know what looks good on you
I have big thighs. and I hate it,but that’s another story!! Anyway, I know that I cannot wear a very tight pencil skirt cause this makes my thighs look huge! So guess what: I don’t! Just because something is a huge trend or cause it’s what you like doesn’t mean you should wear it! Find your weak spots and hide them while you highlight all your assets!
Keep it simple
I know Chiarra Ferragni is causing a scene with her Fashion Week outfits but ladies she is a pro! Don’t just go out with one sneaker and one heel just to provoke. Begin with outfits you feel comfortable with and make you feel pretty!
Invest in key pieces
Regardless of your age group there are some pieces you can’t go wrong with! Try have few aces to your sleeves for your “rainy” days. The little black dress of example is a piece that might stay in your closet for many years and with the right accessories it can look like new every time! A good coat, a pair of dark skinny jeans and a nice blazer are also very important in a girl’s closet.
Have fun
Now that’s the most important!! For me this feels like playing dress up! The clothes, the makeup, the accessories..! You are supposed to have fun with the process and feel good about yourself and your body. No matter what, enjoy life!!
