Winter Capsule Wardrobe

hello ladies! What’s up?

It’s Sunday night, I work the night shift tonight and I had a brand-new-old idea: The winter capsule wardrobe (ground breaking, I know!).

Those following me from the start already know I have tried and failed miserably the capsule wardrobe concept before. This time around though I think it might actually work for me for several reasons. First of all, I work shifts now and also attend the University so I don’t have as much time free as I used too. Also I wear uniform at work and I don’t have to worry about my day-to-day work outfit anymore.

I have noticed that lately I tend to wear pretty much the same things on my free time, a pair of jeans and a sweater or sweatshirt when I’m at home and  usually add a blazer or a cardigan when going out. So obviously it is much easier for me to adapt this time with the hole capsule wardrobe idea as I don’t have to worry about my work outfits anymore. This is actually sooo much better as I get to keep more items for my wardrobe (my uniforms won’t be included on my list so 41 items can stay for my winter wardrobe!!). London Calling

I’m coming London!! Oh I can’t tell you how much I’ve missed London. I have a huge list with all the places I’ll go and of course a shopping list! And you know I still have to be true to my capsule wardrobe so the only things I can buy are the items missed from my summer capsule wardrobe and presents (I think I’m gonna bring a lot of presents back!!). So for now,I will share with you my packing tips and my signature vacation styles for great casual looks!

My number one item is my faux leather bikers jacket. It’s a great must and goes with everything! Mine is from forever21 but similar styles you can find in most stores.
Plain t-shirts are also a must in my luggage. In white and black I love wearing them with many necklaces and a laced bra under them, to give a more girly and stylish vibe. They are also super comfy and I want to be stress free on my vacay.
A dress always comes in handy!Since I’m not gonna be partying or anything I decided not to include any formalwear. That’s why I’ll only bring a nice spring colorful dress for my everyday walks and I’ll pair it with black tights and heels in case I decide to go for a drink!
Shirts are great both for everyday looks but also for night outs. I’ll pair them with my boyfriend jeans and a t-shirt in the mornings and with nice jewelry and tights at night.

Spring Capsule wardrobe : One month update

Unveiling little bit more about my capsule wardrobe today I’ll share few more pics and tips and I’ll focus a bit more on the shoes, as I hadn’t shared any pics in the original post. It’s officially the 32nd day of the project and oh what a surprise(!!!) I haven’t bought any clothes! So far it all works smoothly, I haven’t gotten tired of my outfits and in fact (due to a terrible cold that kept me indoors for few days) there are plenty of lighter clothes that I haven’t even worn once! That means I still have at least another month of exploring my wardrobe before getting bored.

As you might remember, I preferred fewer shoe options just to keep 3-4 more tops for my wardrobe. I’m not a shoe addict (😳😳) so it wasn’t a very tough decision to make. I kept 2 pairs of booties for the office or a night out and also kept the most comfy, trendy, “me” shoes I had.

Spring capsule wardrobe

Ok, raise your hands if you don’t believe I can do it!! 🙂 I’m a shopaholic,to the point of psychosis, so giving up my fav thing in the world for the next 3 months (the ultimate goal is 6,but let’s start with baby steps!) is a pretty hard thing to do! But I have decided to give this capsule wardrobe thing a go!

I have been planning since January my capsule wardrobe, donating few things every week and cross checking all items I want to keep. It has been a very emotional journey as more than half of my closet has somehow been gone. But let’s take things from the beginning:
What is a capsule wardrobe?
For those hearing it for the first time, a capsule wardrobe is a wardrobe of approximately 35 items in total – and for the Jedi masters around 20 items- which you wear for an entire season! This includes shoes too but of course jewelry don’t count!

To be fair, most women,no matter the size of their closet, tend to wear the same clothes over and over again. So this shouldn’t be so hard, right?
The trick is to remove all extra items from your closet and create a more “relaxed” way of putting outfits together.
All these sound great but there is of course a catch: once you decide on your capsule wardrobe of a season you can’t shop until next season!! So in my case, I have come up with my capsule wardrobe for Spring and this means I’ll be able to shop again in June! 😱😱
But I’ve made my mind so I’m gonna try it! The first thing I did was to chose clothes from my closet that are brand new. Some of them are up to two years old but since I kept buying more I never got to wear them. So I made them now key pieces for my capsule. To be honest, I only spent 120€ for the entire wardrobe as I bought 4 items! The rest were already in my closet – including the two Ralph Lauren pairs of shoes that were still in the boxes! 😳😳

For my capsule I have chosen …

3 pairs of jeans in blue, black and white (playing safe here!)

3 pairs of trousers (mainly for work but I’ll try to incorporate them in my weekend looks too)
15 tops, blouses and shirts: of course the simple one colored tee that goes with everything, casual but colorful tops and some more sophisticated shirts for the office.
3 Blazers jackets: the classic black(Not just good for the office but also great with casual wear), a light pink one (totally a spring classic) and a long oversized blazer in blue ( cause a capsule wardrobe doesn’t mean not following the trends!!).

4 cardigans: It’s still chilly out there but it’s also a nice way to create a look! I kept two long sleeved for now,as it’s still cold, and two with no sleeves for April and May when it’s gonna get warmer!

One dress and one long skirt: it is still chilly so I won’t be wearing dresses all the time. But I wanted to have the option of a more girly look for the warmer days!

5 pairs of shoes: I know they sound few but I preferred to have more clothes than shoes, as I end up wearing the same shoes anyway no matter how many I buy!

For the next month I’m gonna be wearing my winter coat( and only that!!) but in April im gonna be using 3 pieces of outwear: a short trench coat, a light parka and a faux leather.Obviously my winter coat is not gonna stay in my capsule wardrobe,as I can’t have them all!

My one trick to avoid panic attacks, and of course the impulse to shop,is to keep few tops hidden in my drawer for a rainy day! So, although I will be wearing only my capsule pieces,if I get super grumpy over this I will pick one top from the drawer and wear it just once, to convince myself it’s something new! I know it sounds silly, but even the idea is very comforting! Of course this doesn’t mean I get to do that every week, but once ore twice in the entire season! Hopefully I won’t have to do it at all if all goes well.
What I’m mostly excited about is the fact that I’ll have to be more creative and work with what I’ve got. I would have to accessorize more,do my hair more often and try combinations I wouldn’t normally try!

So I’m gonna need your support on that guys and of course your thoughts and ideas on the capsule wardrobe!!
